- Utilize your resources! There are more resources than you can possibly imagine at the tips of your fingers. Use your resources to learn about others.
- When learning about a new tech tool, look into every nook and cranny you can possibly imagine, then research more.

Some things I learned from 517:

*sigh* So the semester finally comes to an end. My semester started out easier than I could bear and then ended more stressful than I could bear. This class, though, has by far been the most valuable. "It's been real, it's been fun, but it hasn't been real fun!" That's actually a lie, because it has been real fun! All the things I've learned, including all the free software, websites, techniques, all of it, has inspired and reassured me that I can be a great teacher. I was disheartened by the fact that 80% (or something) of teachers that get their Master's Degrees do not change the way they teach from before they had their Masters. Well, I don't teach yet, so I'm a sponge to everything I'm learning right now. I'm open to every suggestion because I don't have any habits to break; I'm only forming new ones! I can't wait to use any or all of these techniques in my classroom. I think the most useful thing I learned about this semester was Google Docs and the Wiki. I didn't really think the wiki was going to be very useful until I made my lesson plan and was absolutely on a roll with that thing! The ideas were flying by me so fast, I could hardly grab them all before I lost 'em!
I thought the online portfolio/resume' was an EXCELLENT idea. I know Garth mentioned doing this at the beginning of the semester but I guess I didn't even realize how great it would be or how awesome it would look until I saw the girl in our class show us hers. I'm fed up with TK20, although I do think I'm still bound by the University of Akron to use it (they did make me pay 100 bucks for it, and I'm still graded from it I think), everything I put up there is going on my new web page. I don't know what it is yet, but I will create a link to it when I do have it. I have every intention to keep up on this blog, and now it's public, so I'm bound to this! I might not post as often as once a week, but it is nice to have a journal. I always wanted a journal as a kid and never really kept up on one. I will say though, I am more inclined to keep up with this blog if I have followers. If I'm writing to a world wide abyss, I'm more likely to slip :-) Anyway, although my requirements on this blog are done, the blog itself still lives! Stay tuned... Jamael |
